The Tamarros of Andorra: The search for the guardians of nature

Andorra is much more than a destination for skiing or shopping. This tiny country nestled in the Pyrenees, characterized by its imposing mountains, is a true natural sanctuary.

The Tamarros of Andorra: The Search for the Guardians of Nature

For many outsiders, Andorra symbolizes freedom, snowy landscapes, and nature. For others, it’s the place to go shopping... But NO, you should know that there are more things to do because it’s not just about the beauty of the landscape (which will surely surprise you). Here, among centuries-old fir trees and crystal-clear streams, the Tamarros hide—mythical beings that not only protect nature... but are ready for you and your family to discover them on a unique adventure.
If you stay at the Acta Arthotel in Andorra la Vella, you will be in the perfect starting point to begin this magical journey.

But… What are the Tamarros, you ask? Well, they are much more than mere wooden statues. They represent the soul of Andorran nature, a kind of friendly giants that care for the country’s forests and landscapes. Each Tamarro is linked to one of Andorra's 7 parishes (Andorra is subdivided into Parishes, not comarcas or zones), and each one guards a secret: an imaginary portal that only little adventurers can activate… as long as they find the Tamarro and offer it a round stone as a gift.
The dynamic is simple and perfect for a family plan: visit the tourist offices of the different parishes and collect the map with the locations of these mysterious guardians. With the guide in hand, your mission will be to follow the clues that lead you through hidden trails and storybook landscapes until you find each of these mythological nature protectors. Imagine the children’s excitement when they come across one of these giant figures among the trees. Each Tamarro, with its robust appearance and carved wood, looks like it came straight out of an ancient legend… and perhaps, deep down, it really is.

For parents, this plan is an opportunity to rediscover Andorra. Those routes that seem to be mere mountain paths turn into magical trails when seen through the eyes of a child. Every walk is an adventure, every stone hides a mystery. And the best part is that you can enjoy this activity while staying at the Arthotel, a place that, like Andorra itself, blends modernity
